Hi, all! And happy (early) Thanksgiving! This week’s class is online. I thought it would be nice to have an online class on the week of Thanksgiving, just in case you need to travel.
For this week’s class, I would like you to watch the following videos on inspiration and ideas.
Videos
Elizabeth Gilbert on nurturing creativity
Stefan Sagmeister on the power of time off
Seth Godin on the tribes we lead
After you are done watching the above videos, head over to the Wetpaint site and watch/read your classmates’ tutorials. All the tutorials that are under the LIBY 1210-01/14 folder are the ones you should watch/read.
For participation points this week, leave a comment on this post about what inspires you and what you learned from watching and reading your classmates’ tutorials.
Also as part of your online class, head over to the Post-survey and complete it. This is the same survey and questions you took at the beginning of class. It should be much easier (and take less time) to complete now that you are almost done with this class!
Don’t forget to also complete your weekly reflection!
Reminder: Next week is our last class and everyone will be giving their 2-minute presentations. After you have Thanksgiving dinner, don’t forget to practice (and time) your talk.
The things that inspire me is NBA players. They inspire me because basketball is my favorite sport of all time. Kobe Bryant and Derrick Rose are the ones that I inspire the most because they are the biggest all time scorer and they became really good leaders too. I learned a lot of different things watching the online tutorials. They were all good.
The videos have inspire me that ideas came from inspiration. Once you have your inspiration or idea, don’t let it stop; tell them, share them, and spread them. Like our final project for this class, there are ideas and inspirations that people are creating. For over the past few years, technology was one of the biggest inspiration or the new ideas people had that has changed the world its look now. Even in our daily life, we have new ideas on crreating food; for example, making a pizza sandwich or miso soup. One of the best thing for the tutorial is people will have a chance get to know other’s ideas and learn form them, then lively use them in everyday life. After I read my other classmates’ tutorials I realized everyday people are challenging themselves and explore new thoughts; which is good because it helps the world changing and improving.
Wow exactly as Hao Xu said. when we are inspired we have ideas. like our tutorial we learn from them and correct them as we often (or not) use them because our tutorials could be something we always wanted to learn and that motivation leads to inspiration. one of the things that has inspired was the director Kevin Smith who created movies such as Clerks 2 or Red State. my friend and I have been motivated for so long that we have finished our script and are about to begin filming and by 2013 we will be at the Sun Dance Festival.
Things inspire me is those CEOs from any company. They inspired me is because some of them come from 0 to what they have today. Some of them even change the way people do things, creating different stuff and make the world a better world. bringing people even more connected, making life much easier that is what I want to do someday. For example, Steve Jobs, CEO/President of Apple Inc/ Pixar Animation. , he and his friend created Apple Inc. from nothing to famous, everyone knows Apple these days. One thing he said that I will always keep in mind. it was “Stay hungry stay foolish” from his speech in Standford University, 2005. It tells me do not give up keep looking for what like before even settle down. Unfortunately he pass away in 2011. “no one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life” – Steve Jobs. He knew that it was coming and right now we are the new generation of the world, our time is limited, so keep looking of what you like, don’t settle. “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma which is living with the results of other people’s thinking” – Steve Jobs. Be creative and innovative! Mostly, time is very limited so live like we’re dying!
Inspiration can be the biggest key to success. When we are inspired we are able to unlock things in which we thought we were incapable of. Someone who inspires me is Gurbaksh Chahal. Who is a young successful entrepreneur who’s odds of becoming successful was slim to none. Without finishing high school he was able to open a company who’s net worth is now in the multi million dollar range. He came up with the million dollar idea and set on the road to riches. Our tutorials give us the option to teach others and ourselves somethings that we were incapable of. This is what brings out new ideas and a new mind sets into people. This can be a very powerful thing.
After watching all of the videos, as well as my classmate’s comments. I agreed with what they all had to say. Inspiration is something extremely powerful. If you can come up with a million ideas and actually put them into action- regardless of what they are. You are already achieving something, because you took the action to even put your ideas into the open. This would include the tutorials that my classmates made. They were all putting their inspiration and ideas for us to share. Now, The people that inspire me the most, would have have to be my older sister. Since she was the first born, she had to set the example for all of us. She went to UCSB and now has a successful job.
I find inspiration in the form of historic or contemporary figures or groups who are known for their heroism and prowess. For example, I hold great respect for the men of the 20th Maine Regiment during the American Civil War, who at the Battle of Gettysburg, despite being outnumbered and outgunned, managed to hold back dozens of assaults by Confederate forces on Little Round Top.
I found the Pizza Sandwich tutorial to be great. I made Pizza Sandwich during Thanksgiving and everyone loved them. One of best things I’ve ever eaten.
My Mom inspires me, mainly because I don’t want to displease her. I had some trouble reading a couple of tutorials, they were just blank pages with titles, which I found annoying because I did want to know a bit about polybots of the future. I also thought that the ultimate banana split video was interesting, and that the perfect physique tutorial, was sort of like something you’d see on a poster in a doctor’s oice or something.
I’m inspired by my swim coach Jesse, he is a really awesome guy. Jesse was born legally deaf, and he always wanted to be a teacher. Since he has such poor hearing this is an almost impossible dream for him to achieve, but it is amazing to say that he has achieved his dream. Jesse didn’t become a teacher in a school, he became a teacher in the pool. He has been my swim coach for 12 years and I’m so happy that he could achieve his life dream. I thought that the pizza sandwich was an awesome Idea where could you go wrong with such wonderful ingredients. Thank you for the cool on line class!
