Hi, all! You’ve made it to the end of your first quarter at Cal State East Bay! Give yourself a pat on the back and good luck on your final exams.

This week we’ll be listening to each other’s 2 minute presentations in class. It should be a lot of fun. We’ll also be filling out course evaluations.

This is our last class session as there is no final exam in this class!

Week 9: Ideas and Inspirations

Hi, all! And happy (early) Thanksgiving! This week’s class is online. I thought it would be nice to have an online class on the week of Thanksgiving, just in case you need to travel.

For this week’s class, I would like you to watch the following videos on inspiration and ideas.

After you are done watching the above videos, head over to the Wetpaint site and watch/read your classmates’ tutorials. All the tutorials that are under the LIBY 1210-01/14 folder are the ones you should watch/read.

For participation points this week, leave a comment on this post about what inspires you and what you learned from watching and reading your classmates’ tutorials.

Also as part of your online class, head over to the Post-survey and complete it. This is the same survey and questions you took at the beginning of class. It should be much easier (and take less time) to complete now that you are almost done with this class!

Don’t forget to also complete your weekly reflection!

Reminder: Next week is our last class and everyone will be giving their 2-minute presentations. After you have Thanksgiving dinner, don’t forget to practice (and time) your talk.

Week 6: Research Process

Hi, all! Happy Halloween! This week is our second online class. This week we’ll be covering some new material and be doing a bit of review.

Like our last online class, you’ll need to watch the videos below. Then please leave a comment on this post about something new you learned (Comment=attendance and participation points for the week). Remember, you need to finish this class before our next class session together on November 7 (and probably should finish before Friday so you can do your weekly reflection).

Assignments
1. Work on your final project. Finish up your research and start on your tutorial page. Remember final projects are due on November 14!
2. Find an article to bring to class for discussion next week. The article should be about information in some way. Find something that is of interest to you–it could be about plagiarism, wifi access, Internet filtering, etc.

Reminder: This week I’m away from campus all week. I’ll be in Los Angeles for a workshop then I’ll be gone for my sister’s wedding. So email communication will most likely take longer than usual, but I will get back to you.

Week 5: Databases for Research

Hi, all! This week we’ll be meeting in VBT 222. It’s another hands-on class. This time we’ll focus on applying our searching skills to academic databases. It’ll be fun and helpful for your final project.

Week 4: Types of Sources and Evaluation

Hi, all! This week is our first online class of the quarter. Please finish this class before our next meeting on October 24th as Assignment 4 will be due and is based on what you learn in this online class.

So the class is pretty simple. Please click the links below to view the online videos/tutorials that cover this week’s topics: identifying different types of sources and source evaluations. After you are finished watching the videos, please leave a comment on this post about something new you learned (this comment will count as your attendance and participation points for the week). Then you should complete assignment 4. Also, don’t forget to do your weekly reflection.

Week 2: Searching the Web

Hi, all! This week we will meet in VBT 222 (that’s Valley Business Technology Building–the big white building). We will be meeting there because we need a computer lab for our hands-on class this week. We’ll be sharing tips on becoming better searchers on the web.

Also, super-important, we’ll be signing up for research appointments. You won’t want to miss it because you’ll be getting your tutorial (aka final project) topic approved by me so you can get started on your research. Don’t worry, I’ll explain everything in class.

Also, if you haven’t yet emailed me your Horizon email, you need to do so ASAP! I am required to email you only at your Horizon account and need it for your Google Doc.

Week One: Introductions

Hi! Welcome to LIBY 1210-01/14! I look forward to meeting you all at our first class meeting on Monday at noon.

We will be meeting in LI 3040 which is on the second floor of the library. The classroom is right by the stairs; you can’t miss it.

Don’t worry, there’s nothing you need to prep for this first class. Just bring yourself (and probably something with which to take notes would be a good idea, too) and be ready to participate in the information literacy learning process. It will be fun (or at least not completely boring).
